Oberbergener Baßgeige

There’s music in that (since 2017)

The Oberbergener Baßgeige (double bass) is one of the most well-known wine areas in Baden, more precisely in the Kaiserstuhl. However, consumers often perceive it not as an area designation but rather as a brand. Behind this known "brand" stands – with only few exceptions, e.g. the renowned VDP Franz Keller vineyard – always the cooperative association of Oberbergen. This last had an overall appearance that was a bit long in the tooth that we were permitted to relaunch in 2017. The primary dictate: it should be very gentle and recognizability should have absolute priority.

The assortment of the cooperative association was condensed considerably during the relaunch and divided into various lines of wine. Here the optical line formation, with clear quality hierarchy, was just as important as acceptance by existing customers – circa 3 million liters of wine sold per year is after all not a sum to be marginalised. Prior to market introduction the new appearance was examined by market research and deemed consistent and harmonious for Oberbergen.
